Smooth focusing adjustments can be made with the 360-degree focusing ring on the lens barrel. A 13-bladed diaphragm helps create smooth and stunning bokeh. The lens's optical design incorporates two aspherical elements, two HR elements, and three ED glass elements, which together provide contrast-rich imagery with minimized flare and ghosting. The STM motor within the lens minimizes focus breathing and creates fast and quiet autofocus, which greatly benefits video applications.
